REVIEW: Zom-B #4: Angels by Darren Shan

DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES. I’M SERIOUS; I’M GOING TO INCLUDE BOOK 1, BOOK 2 AND BOOK 3 SPOILERS.

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

If you have read my other reviews, you will know there is a storyline that I absolutely love in books, especially when it is done well. Shan pulls it off in Zom-B Angels. However, I won’t ruin the surprise for you by telling you what it is. You’re just going to have to read the series, or possibly my review of the next in the series, to find out.

In Angels, B is reunited with a couple of characters from previous books and she finds a group of revitalizeds who are training for battle. Battle against whom? Although there is a hint that is quite obvious, you may be surprised at the sharp turn Angels takes. I loved it!

It has been apparent, but now clear, that Shan is doing for zombies what he did for vampires in Cirque du Freak. In the first three books, the reader discovers there are more than just run of the mill zombies in the story. There are some things we are just not quite sure of and you are not going to get all the answers in Angels. In fact, you’re going to get more questions than answers, although it doesn’t seem to bother me. I’ll give you one teaser- you find out why some infected become revitalizeds instead of reviveds. If Cirque is any indicator, Shan seems to be a master at being able to stretch out a series into many books without killing the story as Charlaine Harris did in the Sookie books, so I look forward to many more Zom-B books in the future.

I’ve mentioned before that Shan’s books are quite graphic. If you are not okay with that, or are not big into zombies to begin with, this series is not for you. Even though it is a Young Adult series, it gets scary, especially when the clown makes an appearance. And we’re not talking about Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain series or World War Z. These books are very quick and easy reads. I read them for the fun of it. Don’t expect a whole lot of higher meaning.

In the end, I recommend this entire series and was very happy with Zom-B Angels.
